The two prize winning entries from the recent Merseytravel/Daily Post Environmental Art competition are now on display in the underpass connecting Liverpool Lime Street station with the Merseyrail underground network, where they will be seen by hundreds of thousands of passengers over the coming months.
Amy Morrison, 18, from Formby won the 18 and under category with her politically inspired cartoon and Chris Valentine, 46, from Anfield won the over 18 award with his Liver Bird themed entry.
They each win £250 cash plus free family passes to visitor attractions including The Mersey Ferries, The Beatles Story, Spaceport and the U-Boat Story.
Councillor Mark Dowd, Chair of Merseytravel, said, “I’d like to congratulate Chris Valentine and Amy Morrison on two fantastic entries.
“Both are worthy to grace the pages of the Liverpool Daily Post.
“In fact they wouldn’t look out of place in any national newspaper or magazine.
“Similarly, I think they’ll also look great in the Lime Street Station underpass and they will be a lasting legacy of 2009, Liverpool’s Year of the Environment.”
Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel added, “This is another commission for a public art programme that is going from strength to strength and one that is, in itself, unique in the UK.
“We wanted the public network to showcase the vast array of talent that Merseyside has to offer and we hope this is another way of doing just that.
“We are hoping that we can create a network that offers a surprise at every corner and we’ll continue to find ways to mix exciting new commissions with celebrating the local and regional talent that sets Merseyside apart from all others”
