Open a T-FLOW prepaid tolls account and you will benefit from reduced tolls through the Mersey Tunnels. And if you live in the Liverpool City Region and drive a class 1 vehicle for personal (not business) use, you can get a further reduction on tolls.
How T-FLOW works
If you don't have a pre-paid tolls account and need to make a journey through the tunnel, please be aware that we do not provide change. Please use the AUTO lanes to pay with the correct change or by contactless.

Liverpool City Region Residents' Discount
If you drive a Class 1 vehicle and live within the Liverpool City Region (with local authorities of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral) you are entitled to a discount on your journeys. You will need a pre-paid toll account and you must not be travelling for business reasons. For all other users the Class 1 toll is £2.40. There are no changes to the toll fees for Class 2, 3 or 4 vehicles for either pre-paid accounts or cash payments.
Escort Fees
Additional charges will be made for vehicles of exceptional height or width which require a Police escort.
From April 2026 the charges will be as follows:
- Control of one lane £25
- Control of two lanes £57
Unpaid Fees and Tolls
There will be an additional charge of £16 for administrative costs if escort fees or outstanding tolls remain unpaid after 14 days.
Breakdown
If your vehicle breaks down, we will move it to a safe place at one of the tunnel entrances. You must then arrange to have your vehicle recovered from there. If, however, your vehicle cannot be easily towed because of its size or type we will have to arrange a specialist recovery service who will charge you for this.
